Scope Description

Yarn Spinning Operator (Level 2 & Level 3) VQA Vocational Qualification Certification

Yarn production, the start of the textile chain, is a critical process where fiber is transformed into yarn. The Yarn Spinning Operator national qualification (Level 2 and Level 3) certifies the competence of personnel working on different spinning systems like Ring Spinning, Open-End (Rotor), and Air-Jet Spinning machines, who initiate, monitor, and quality-check the production process, in line with Vocational Qualification Authority (VQA) standards.

At Sönmez Certification, we aim to add value to the sector's core workforce by reliably certifying the expertise of spinning operators in machine setup, addressing yarn breaks, and quality control.

Core Competencies and Qualification Units:

The Yarn Spinning Operator certificate requires the candidate to succeed in mandatory units and elective units that specify their area of professional expertise:

Unit Code Unit Name Scope Level Mandatory Status
11UY0037-X/A1 Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Measures and Quality Implementing noise and fly management, machine safety, and basic quality requirements. Level 2 & 3 Mandatory
11UY0037-X/A2 Machine Preparation, Monitoring, and Control Operations Machine cleaning, feeding, winding monitoring, intervening in yarn breaks, and machine stop/start procedures. Level 2 & 3 Mandatory
Elective B Units Spinning Specialization (Min. 1) Practical competency in at least one of the following activities: B1 Ring Spinning, B2 Open-End Spinning, or B3 Air-Jet Spinning operations. Level 3 Elective (Min. 1)

Level Differentiation (Level 2 vs. Level 3):

  • Level 2 (Basic Operator): Demonstrates the ability to perform basic operations such as feeding raw material (roving, sliver) according to work instructions on pre-set machines, piecing up broken ends, machine monitoring, and cleaning.

  • Level 3 (Skilled Operator/Setter): Represents the competence to change machine settings (count, twist, winding) according to the production type, specialize in different spinning systems (Ring/Open-End/Air-Jet), and actively intervene in machine breakdowns and yarn defects. Level 3 requires specialization in the elective B units.

Benefits of Certification for Employers and Employees:

  1. Reduction in Defect Rate: The operator's quick and accurate response to yarn breaks minimizes faulty yarn production and machine downtime.

  2. Efficient Raw Material Use: Correct management of fiber feeding and waste sorting processes reduces raw material waste and costs.

  3. Work Environment Quality: Ensures the full implementation of OHS and environmental measures against noise and dust (fly) risks.

  4. Expertise Registration: Allows the employee to prove their critical expertise in spinning—the most fundamental production process in textiles—with a national certificate.
